Color My World in Oil Pastel/Color Pencil (VET Thursday Afternoons)

The beauty of working with oil pastels is the wonderful versatility of manipulating color while retaining the original sketch. There is something very satisfying about the immediate response of the luscious colors and textures that can create lasting creative mark making. The unique quality of this medium is that it can combine drawing and painting using different strokes and pressures. In this class, VET will guide you through several techniques in blending, layering, gradation, scraping, transfer, as well as light and heavy application. In addition, you will practice how to combine this versatile medium with other mediums like color pencils to produce rich, vibrant hues. There is no pre-mixing or worries about drying time and minimal clean up. Working with this medium will offer a deeper understanding of the nature of pastels and enjoy the pleasures of working with this vibrant and luminous medium. Tuition includes some materials; Additional supplies are required for this course; the instructor will have a supply list in class.
