If you like experimenting with your already fired ceramics, you will want to be a part of this workshop! After glazing already bisque fired ceramics, you will explore this ancient Japanese technique of firing work in an outdoor kiln and removing it while it is still red hot! Pieces will be place in bins of combustible materials then quenched to starve the piece of oxygen. This gives the surface quality of each piece a truly unique finish, displaying a variety of colors and textures when cooled. In addition, other related techniques such as experimentation with horsehair or crackle may be explored.
Please bring bisque-fired ceramic project(s) that you would like to Raku fire.
Grogged stoneware clay is ideal for this process.
