Delve deep into the technical aspects of kilncasting by creating a refractory mold for glass casting. Beginning with a simple wax form, you will customize it through carving or using wax additions (students will be asked to research surface decoration ideas for their project before coming to the workshop and then bring your ideas in the form of sketches, photos, etc.). You will learn how to build refractory molds, steam out was and calculate appropriate glass quantities. Basic finishing and coldworking techniques will also be covered.
In addition to the supplies the materials fee covers, you will need to plan to spend $100-150 the day of the first class to choose your billet and accessory glasses depending on the color you choose.
