During this relief printmaking workshop students will draw, carve, and print their own woodcut block in the style of master printmaker Octavio Medellin (the founder of the CAC). Octavio made multiple relief prints based on a visit to the Temple of the Jaguar. We will examine the imagery in his work as well as discuss color method techniques he used to create the work. Time permitting, we will attempt an additional printing process that Octavio used to create his work.

We will carve the woodcut using relief printmaking tools (u-gauges and v-gauges). We will also print a small edition, we should be able to pull 1-3 prints by hand using various types of barens.

Some pre-drawn woodblocks will be available for students.

All skill levels welcome!

Materials and tools will be provided.
