Storytelling Thru Collage (Wednesday Mornings)

Guided by full-time artist Flanzella, discover the power of visual storytelling through collage. In this hands-on course, you'll explore how to build compelling dialogues in 2D artworks by flipping through vintage magazines and found materials. Quickly, you'll see these papers of the past make it easy to spark controversy in the artworks you'll be making. You'll learn fine art techniques for composition, cutting, gluing, and finishing. In each class we will learn about several collage artists and/or techniques, providing a base for inspiration along with lots of time for creating collages. After the discovery phase, students will be challenged to choose a theme to make a series of works within. By the end of the course you should feel confident that you've tried many collage techniques, discovered your artistic voice through the juxtaposition of imagery and feel closer to achieving a cohesive style in collage.
