Design and develop your visual dialogue as you work with multiple materials and create an art piece from concepts including imagery and symbolism. Working with acrylic paint and other items such as paper, fabric, text, found objects or packaging, play with textures and apply various mediums to create a vibrant work of art on a Gessobord.

Focus on ways to paint a contemporary portrait from life through adapted old masters techniques in this intensive two-day workshop. We will explore color mixing, paint application and traditional painting processes that will yield an illuminated and volumetric likeness of our model. Each student will leave with an oil on canvas portrait as well as a strengthened understanding of layering and mixing color in oil paint.

Discover how to pour colorful acrylic flow art, including how to create beautiful cells. Designed to provide you with all the techniques and insights necessary to create your own artwork. At the same time, you will be introduced to the seven chakras, their related colors and individual attributes. You will learn how imbalances and blockages of the chakras can manifest in your emotional and physical body.

Choose from the provided chakra color schemes for your flow art. You will walk away with four 6x6' canvases of your own finished creations. All materials are provided.

Examine the variety of mixed media on paper using various traditional genre techniques in this class that combines gouache and water color. This layered method of gouache and watercolor mix media will be explored in class through demonstrations, class exercises, projects, photo references, master copies and an art history look into the Victorian Style of watercolor painting fused with a contemporary practice of mix media.

En Plein Air is the French word for “outdoors.” Painting in natural light became popular during the mid 19th-century during the age of Impressionism. In this one-day, beginner level workshop, you will learn basic watercolor tips and methods for creating a watercolor painting on location at one of Dallas’ hidden gems, The Valley House Gallery and Sculpture Garden. Bring your own portable plein easel and travel stool if you wish (not required).

Join this workshop to learn the joys of making a creative artful travel journal. Learn ways to utilize the travel journal before, during and after the trip to extend the joy of your trip. Drawing and journaling your trip is an important method for cementing details into your memory whether the journal itself is the end product or a tool for creating larger, more finished paintings in the future. We will use simple drawing tools, a compact watercolor palette and a spiral bound watercolor sketchbook for this one day workshop. Beginners to intermediate level artists welcomed!
