The Secrets of Color
With Kay Byfield, MFA, SWS
This class is appropriate for experienced painters in watermedia who have painting supplies and have completed some paintings of their own. Beginners with no experience would be uncomfortable but people who have only taken a class or two would be equipped to participate. Very experienced painters could profit from some of content and practice that will be provided.
In this One-Day Class Kay Byfield will be providing practical exercises to cement painter’s understanding of how color is best used in painting. Kay will review the ways that using complementary pairs, controlling color temperature, juxtaposing color intensities, and creating value contrasts can be used strategically to maximize the impact of a painting of any subject.
During this short course on color, participants will experiment with effective ways to create color contrasts and harmonies to help highlight the key parts of a composition and to minimize the less important areas. This class will help students to make color choices that attract attention, accentuate mood, support the meaning of the artwork, and direct the eye around the composition.
This one-day class is designed for watercolorists at all levels from relative beginners to experienced painters who want to improve their color choices as they paint.
