WORKSHOPS: MIXED MEDIA

Develop the skills of laying down bold abstract structures in various mediums, applying vivid and expressive colors, and exploring placement of the collaging materials to add depth and dynamism to paintings. Through the creative process, this workshop will help students discover and develop their unique artistic voice and painting style which can be applied to future painting.

Beginning with a demonstration/discussion of abstraction and realism in watercolor, you will learn about the exciting possibilities that exist in mixing various mediums and collaging materials. In this workshop, you will create a unique painting fueled by personal inspirations, using a variety of tools and techniques. During the painting's development, you will receive individualized attention, guidance, and encouragement that will have you finding both joy and curiosity in the development of your process.

Join us for an exciting day of artistic expression in an adventurous atmosphere as you delve into creating your very own mixed media collage painting. 

Open to all skill levels and all supplies will be provided.

Discover how to use textiles to create beautifully layered compositions in encaustic in this three- or six-hour workshop taught by Leigh Harrison. We'll also be doing some incising and tinting the surface with pigment sticks. All supplies included. We have plenty of textiles and papers, but you are welcome to bring more; thinner textiles and papers are best. This workshop is designed for artists of all levels, even those new to encaustic painting.

Incorporate stencils & collage into your encaustic routine. This workshop will cover a multitude of ways to add depth, color, pattern, and texture with commercial as well as hand-made stencils.

From experimenting with color gradients to exploring texture and transparency, attendees will gain a deep understanding of the endless possibilities that encaustic offers.

Students will choose and arrange images, create small drawings, select a color palette, and develop a center of interest to create an aesthetically pleasing and framed composition.

Students are encouraged to collect from home and bring meaningful items to personalize their collage; maps from trips, found 3D objects, small toys, etc. The more materials you select, the more design options you’ll have.

Additional objects, hand-made papers, matte medium, glue brushes, and shadow box frames will be provided at the workshop.

Design and develop your visual dialogue as you work with multiple materials and create an art piece from concepts including imagery and symbolism. Working with acrylic paint and other items such as hand-cut paper, templates simple drawings, fabric, and text, you will play with textures and apply various mediums to create a vibrant work of art on a gesso 2" panel. 

Supplies and painting surfaces are provided.
