During this workshop students will draw, carve, and print MDF wood blocks in a classic calavera or Dia De Los Muertos style. Dia De Los Muertos and printmaking have a deep rooted history together. Students are encouraged to bring a sketch to the workshop, there will also be some pre drawn woodblocks available if you would like to use those. Students will carve with relief printmaking tools (u-gauges and v-gauges) that will be provided and print the blocks by hand using various types of barens. Change your mind, change your art. Many people try to describe their experience when "in the zone" or "in the flow" during the creative process. What is this state of consciousness, and how do we replicate it? In search of answers, writer and painter Christopher J. Miller took the suggestion of one of his art mentors to watch and chronicle his creative process. Join him on his journey home as he outlines his approach. In this three-week Zoom workshop, you will be working from Chris' new book, "The Spiritual Artist". Chris reviews his journey to self-awareness with powerful lessons and activities that shift your creative work as well as your life. Students will be required to purchase the book through Amazon before class. Classes will review key concepts from the book, including Creating Sacred Space, Being Present to Your Process, Recognizing Spirit, and more. Students will enjoy breakouts and the opportunity to meet and connect with other artists each week. They will then be asked to practice their lesson through exercises while creating art in their discipline. According to one reader, "Christopher Miller's book The Spiritual Artist deserves a place on your bookshelf right next to The Artists Way, The Inner Game of Tennis and Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance."
