Discover one of the oldest methods of dyes and create beautiful works of art in this full day workshop. Using traditional shibori methods with synthetic indigo, students will create unique designs onto pillow cases, wall hangings, bags, scarves and much more to take home and enjoy. Learn how to make a soft bound leather book where the pages are attached to a piece of leather by means of sewing. Similar to Japanese stab bound books, this process exposes the stitching on the spine which can also be used to create a decorative element. Unlike the stab binding style, the cover is not made with book binder’s board. Instead, medium weight leather is used for the cover, making the book flexible. This is an ideal beginner style book because it has only a few parts. No gluing is needed and the leather makes it durable. All supplies are included

Do you love making vessels out of clay, but hate the glazing process? This workshop serves as a place to discover things to love about glazing. We will learn about color blend techniques and glaze application. This workshop serves as an extension of the various ceramics classes offered. Participants must have taken at least one or two sessions at the CAC or equivalent and bring 2-3 vessels that are already bisque fired to practice with during the workshop. These vessels must individually be between 4 and 8 cubic inches to practice these techniques. Students should bring a sketchbook or notepad to take notes and document what is taught as well as their experimentation process.

All materials are included.

NOTE: Students are encouraged to bring their own person N95 respirators to protect themselves from harmful dusts.

Sculpt an animal in clay in four hours, glaze animal in the next session. Have the fun and excitement of gesturing quickly in clay, refining and finishing an animal of your choice in one session. After two weeks of drying the clay, piece goes through a bisque firing.
