Painting Reflections, Transparency, and Shadows in Watercolor (7/27 Workshop)
Reflections and Transparency can be included with subject matter and are useful to artists as a way of disrupting visual expectations and adding interest to paintings. Because transparent reflective substances like glass and water distort and yet replicate the objects around them, they provide a fascinating way of looking at things. That can make a common-place item look more interesting. For this reason, they create captivating design opportunities but can also add metaphorical levels of meaning to an artwork.
In this workshop, students will learn why and how to use transparency and reflections to add visual interest and enhance the possible interpretations of the reading of an artwork. This workshop will include a presentation with examples of how they can be incorporated successfully into artworks and then an opportunity to include them in a painting. Please bring your own watermedia painting supplies (paints, pallet, brushes, water containers, etc.) A painting exercise for practicing the skills presented will be provided to you on watercolor paper. Please bring your own lunch and drinks.
